YellowBricks Trackers on passage races!
Yacht Tracking will be added as a feature of the event for the first time!
The YB (Yellow Brick) Yacht Tracking system has been chosen as the company is the industry leader, providing tracking services for the Rolex Sydney Hobart, World ARC 2017, Rolex Fastnet, Sydney Gold Coast Race and many more top international events, around 200 in total.
Each competing yacht will be provided with a small rugged, waterproof device that transmits a signal from anywhere in the world via Iridium satellites to the race organisers, giving details of the yacht with position, course and speed. This feature will be used on the RMSIR passage races from Port Klang to Pangkor, Pangkor to Penang and Penang to Langkawi and will provide essential safety information in the case of an on board emergency. The tracker “wakes up” on a regular basis (for example, every 15 minutes) to obtain a position using the GPS satellite network, and then transmits that position back to an online map, which is embedded on the STI website during a Race, or viewed directly. In an emergency an individual tracker can be remotely reprogrammed to transmit much more frequently.
A “live tracking” web based race viewer will be available on the RMSIR web site, showing the race track, current position and distance to the finish of every yacht while they are passage racing, and an app can be downloaded to smart phones and tablets showing the same data. A list will show the race positions for boats in each class and replay facilities are available to recap completed races.
Safety is the number one priority for RMSIR and the most up to date technology will now be employed to locate yachts at any position on the race course. The YB Trackers will give our race officers the constant ability to monitor and check the fleet as it proceeds up the west coast of Malaysia. It will also give the families and friends of our skippers and crew members peace of mind by providing up to date yacht positioning, along with involving them in the excitement of close fought race positions.
Yacht enthusiasts around the world will also be able to follow RMSIR live and then comment on the event of Facebook and Twitter!
